I lie in the cool grass
and imagine my fingers
taking root,
my toes growing bark, my ears
sprouting mushrooms.
Mother Earth makes me a crown
of wildflowers and tells me to
rest awhile, and moss grows
where resentment used to be.
My heart beats in time with the
earth as the dirt and rain wash
away anything that made me
woman, and I am finally free of
this skin that has never felt like
my own.
